June Talks At Hanauma Bay

Hanauma Bay Eduction Program offers free public lectures by local experts and research affiliates this month on a variety of topics. Each Sunday talk begins at 3 p.m. in the education alcove classroom at the nature preserve, as listed below. Arrival by 2:45 p.m. is recommended. Parking costs $1. For more details, call 397-5840.

• June 7 — Wally Ito of Ewa Beach Limu Project presents “No Limu, No Fish.”

• June 14 — Hoku Johnson of NOAA presents “Me hue ‘opihi pa‘a la: Utilizing Science and Culture to Manage Our Shorelines.”

• June 21 — Alison Sherwood of UH Manoa Botany Department presents “Phylogeography of tropical Pacific marine algae.”

• June 28 — Chief scientist Alan Friedlander of the Fisheries Ecology Research Lab at UH Department of Biology presents “A global perspective on Hawaii’s coral reefs.”
