Native Hawaiian artist Solomon Enos will be an Artist in Residence this year at Castle High School, and the school ohana can meet him at a 6 p.m. coffee hour Sept. l0 in the school library.
Enos is well-known across the state for his striking, native works that span several media, from vast murals to comic books. He will collaborate with Castle students and staff on a special, permanent art project for the Kaneohe campus. A free “Art in Public Places” workshop with Enos also is scheduled for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 13 in the school cafeteria.
Each year the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts partners with the DOE to commission about four school projects with a maximum total budget of $100,000. This covers the services of a professional visual artist who will work with the students, staff and larger community to create a lasting artistic statement.
